Yahoo usability vs Google technology
Hi, hypernarrative is a blog by Wilbert Baan about Art, Media and Technology with a focus on interactive storytelling. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed with Google or Netvibes. I'll post a few messages a week. Thanks for visiting!
Jeff Bonforte a Yahoo employee says in this video his Yahoo is better in designing user friendly (web)applications and thus more successful.
According to Jeff the lack of good usability design in some of the Google applications is the main reason why Yahoo mail for example is more popular than Gmail. Where he thinks this comes from? Google is a company based on technological minds.
I’m not sure if this is totally right. Google could put more effort into design, but I think Yahoo sites / applications have a lot of unnecessary usability issues as well.
What is curious about this video is that this is a Yahoo employee openly linking success or failure of Yahoo or Google to good or bad design.
Will this start a mud fight between web giant employees? It could be a great yearly event.
