Seems Somebody Is Clicking on That Spam

Hi, hypernarrative is a blog by Wilbert Baan about Art, Media and Technology with a focus on interactive storytelling. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed with Google or Netvibes. I'll post a few messages a week. Thanks for visiting!

The New York Times calculated that the click-through rate for spam promoting pornography is 5,6%. This is far more effective than most banner-advertisements.

Meanwhile I’m still deleting the 40190 comments delivered at my digital doorstep by the same spam-industry.

Henry Jenkins

Henry Jenkins (Director of the MIT Comparative Media Studies Program) started blogging a few weeks ago. The event of him starting a blog didn’t go unnoticed in ‘the blogoshpere’. For those of you who missed it, this sure is a feed to read (RSS).

[Democracy, Big Brother Style] …A lot of fuss has been made lately about the “fact” that more people voted for the most recent American Idol than voted in the last presidential election.

Bloggers, Vloggers and the Pelé-brand

On the Web - Wilbert on July 2, 2006 at 11:39 am, Comments Off

IHT writes about the brand Pelé and how the image and aura of the 65 year old legend will be monetized over the next years.

“…Ferreira predicted that the global Pelé business - of which Pelé will get an unspecified cut - will take in $30 million next year and as much as $100 million in 2008. There is no way that his estimates could be verified…”

Everything that makes a connection on some emotional level is - and can be exploited as - a brand. It’s not unlikely bloggers and vloggers will be the best known brands within ten years or so, for some - digital insiders - they already are. No matter if this brand will be a real-life person or virtual alterego.

The Amsterdam based Xolo.tv is on the right track to become one.

VK.tv Logo/Teaser/Trailer

Interactive Video, Things I do - Wilbert on July 2, 2006 at 11:36 am, 0 Comments

Logo and teaser design for VK.tv a Volkskrant television channel. The styled symbol refers to a discussion cloud. The stimulation of debate and discussion are channel/medium independent values and play a key role in the foundation of the newspaper.

Technical Specs. 1) The form of logo can be easily used for animation. 2) The logo is still recognizable when heavy compressed for the small screen of a cellphone.
